The Bong Remains the Same: Reunion Retrospective
Evil Genius chided me for remaining silent on the Led Zeppelin reunion everyone’s talking about. Truthfully, it’s because a couple of months ago I wrote a five part Zeppelin epic, essentially squeezing the Zeppelin lemon until the juice ran down my leg. But for those of you who weren’t on board for the epic (or dare to work your way through it again), here it is in in all its glory:

If this were a TV series–and I see no reason why it shouldn’t be–this would be known as your “Clips Episode”.
Funny thing is, there are a lot of music snobs on the ol’ blogosphere who go on at length about how Zep was “great & all but never that good live b/c Jimmy Page is sloppy.” Maybe it’s because I was raised in the Church of Classic Rock, but it’s tough on my eyes to read that. For one, I really don’t care about their quality as a live band. By the time I came of legal rockin’ age (12 years old in the Midwest), Zep was done. Bonham died in ‘80. So, all I ever had to go on were their studio albums, which I listened to 800,000 times each. I think it’s pretty ballsy to call Page a sloppy guitarist. He may not be a clean-playing Satriani or Vai, but I think the ol’ boy did pretty good for himself — influencing rock worldwide & all.
This post is like a reunion of your old posts.
I think that they should join forces with the crew from Texas and become Zeppelin Z. Top. But I’m just sayin’ that because I’d love to hear a mix of “Waiting on The Bus” and “Stairway to Heaven” in one song.
